Dreams

Haha I'm silly. I was supposed to actually introduce my list of dreams in the first post but I guess I forgot to do so. I'll do it now [: Basically, my other blog has a longer explanation on how and why I decided to do this. I've posted a list of dreams on my wall and have constantly added to it. I'll be bringing this list to college in order to be reminded constantly of the things I'm working towards. I'll just copy and paste the post from the other blog to prevent you from sifting through pages of posts.

My list of dreams:

1. major/minor in math- I've loved math since elementary school and want to study it professionally.

2. Study abroad in Hong Kong- I'm fascinated with this city

3. Love my job- seeing my dad love his job makes me realize that it's not worth my time pursuing a career I don't absolutely love. I want a job, which I'm excited to go to every single day.

4. Ride in a hot air balloon- need I explain?

5. Own my own nonprofit by 30- always been a dream

6. Live in the middle of a city that never sleeps- not alluding to NYC. Although that would be pretty nice [: Basically any city that has a night life.

7. Own an Old English Sheepdog- I've had this dream since I was 8

8. Surround myself with people who dream and challenge me constantly

9. Go to Greece

10. Become an elementary school teacher

11. Own a white grand piano- I want to play it in my living room with the sun's rays shining down on it.

12. Own a white house with a wrap around porch

13. Go explore the maldives- I want to experience one of the world's natural beauties before it disappears. (It's sinking)

Double majoring/study abroad

I haven't updated in a long time, but I'm going to the Penn Preview day on Monday so I'll be able to ask more questions about that[:. The only thing I'm worried about at the moment is how I can graduate in 4 years + study abroad a semester + double major. Might have to switch to a minor =/

Introducing my Dreams

If you have found this blog, welcome! I've decided to start this as a journey to pursuing my list of childhood dreams. I think about a lot when I'm awake late into the night. To introduce this blog and its purpose, I'm going to copy and paste a post I made in my secret blog.

3:04 AM

Dreams are for idealists. However, with my new list, I've tried to incorporate realist perspectives. I specifically created a list just so my dreams can become realities and not merely a statement in the back of my mind.

Thought: Ariel from the little mermaid
Song: Part of your world
Idea: curiosity (innate)

Perhaps every man was born with innate curiosity. After all, we wish for what we do not have. I want to be able to dance, to play the guitar, to fly, to swim. Many think like me in that they do not quite appreciate what they currently have but instead covet what they do not. I don't think twice about my ability to play the piano. I don't think twice about my living situation when there are those with far less opportunity. Instead, I covet more. I want to sing well. I want be a celebrity. I want to be a dancer. In those dreams, rarely do we observe the idealism. Do we realize that when we wish we can dance, we wish we can dance really well. When we wish we can sing, we wish we can sing really well. In every one of these instances, we want to be the best with little effort. Never in my dreams do I examine the way in which I might achieve this. I don't realize the extensive training involved in becoming a really good dancer or singer. The amount of work. The amount of effort. Therefore, we are idealistic. We dream of these things without understanding the reality of the work involved.

My list is the same way. I've thought about the ways in which I might achieve the dreams. The simple logistics that the ways involved. However, I have never thought in detail how to go about becoming an elementary teacher, when I might have time to do it, what I might have to sacrifice. Because I have not thought about these details, my dreams are anything but reality. In the end, my attempt to become a realist only results in simply idealism.

This is the purpose of the blog--to become more realistic, to make my dreams a reality. I will blog about the logistics, the thoughts, the every action that I must take to achieve these dreams. I hope that by the time I'm done, I will have achieved them all.
